COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sport Psychology program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of psychological principles across different sporting contexts while developing strong professional and research skills. In September, students begin with Professional Practice in Sport Psychology 1, which introduces key competencies for applied work, alongside Research Methods in Psychology 1, which builds foundational research skills. Two additional modules, Psychology of Community Sport and Psychology of Team Sport, explore how psychological factors influence participation, motivation and performance within community settings and team environments. In January, the focus shifts to more advanced and specialised areas. Psychology of Individual Sport examines the mental processes and challenges faced by solo athletes, while Professional Practice in Sport Psychology 2 deepens applied skills and ethical awareness needed for professional practice. Psychology of Elite Sport addresses performance psychology within high-performance environments, and Research Methods in Psychology 2 enhances students’ capabilities in designing and conducting rigorous psychological research. In May, students undertake an Independent Project in Psychology, allowing them to apply their learning to a self-directed research study on a chosen sport psychology topic. Together, these modules prepare students for further professional training or applied roles in sport and exercise psychology by combining theory, practice and research.
