COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sign Language Interpreting (EUMASLI) curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation in international sign language communication, research skills and professional development. The September modules focus on building essential competencies, beginning with Interpreting Between International Sign and English and Introducing International Sign, which equip students with practical interpreting skills for multilingual and multicultural contexts. Research Methods: Sign Language Interpreting and Translation as Profession and Performance introduces students to key research approaches, while Interpreting and Translation Studies provides theoretical grounding in the broader fields of translation and interpreting. In January, the program advances into more specialised and developmental areas. Developing the Profession encourages students to understand and contribute to the growth of interpreting as a recognised field. Translating Between International Sign and English strengthens translation abilities, complementing earlier interpreting modules. Students also begin work on their Master’s Thesis, gaining experience in independent academic research. Additionally, Personal Development and Academic Skills supports their growth as reflective practitioners. Two further modules, Similarity and Diversity in European Sign Languages and Similarity and Diversity in European Deaf Communities, offer insights into linguistic and cultural variations across Europe, helping students appreciate the diverse backgrounds of the communities they will serve.
