COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Renewable and Sustainable Energy Transition program offers a comprehensive and practical education in renewable energy systems and sustainable energy transitions. In September, students undertake mandatory modules in Economics of Renewable Energy, Transition Engineering - Achieving Zero Carbon InTIME, and Renewable Technology 1: Generation, providing foundational knowledge in energy economics, strategies for achieving zero-carbon systems, and the principles of renewable energy generation. Optional modules such as Environmental Processes, Oceanography, and Climate Change, Sustainability and Adaptation allow students to explore environmental and climate-related aspects of energy systems. In January, core modules include Energy Transition Lab, Renewable Technology Commercialisation, Supply Chain Management, Decarbonisation and Renewable Energy, and Integration of Renewable Technology, equipping students with practical, project-based experience and the skills to evaluate, implement, and manage renewable energy technologies within broader energy systems. The program culminates in May with the ILES Environment Dissertation, enabling students to undertake an independent research project that applies theoretical knowledge to real-world energy transition challenges. Through a combination of interdisciplinary teaching, practical lab work, and project simulations, students develop critical skills in data analysis, modelling, system integration, and sustainable energy decision-making. Graduates are prepared for careers in renewable energy companies, consulting firms, government agencies, research institutions, and non-profit organisations, contributing to sustainable energy solutions and the global drive towards net-zero emissions.
