COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Interpreting and Translating program offers a comprehensive pathway to developing professional skills in both translation and interpreting. In September, students complete mandatory modules in Skills for Interpreting, Translation and Interpreting Studies, and Translation Practice I, which establish a strong foundation in core techniques, theoretical knowledge, and practical translation abilities. Optional modules in September, such as International Politics and Organisations, Business Communication in the Workplace, Intercultural Communication in the Workplace, Liaison and Public Service Interpreting, Translation Technologies, and Subtitling, allow students to tailor their learning to specific professional interests and enhance versatility within the field. In January, core modules include Conference Interpreting, Translation Practice II, and Research Methods, which provide advanced training in specialised interpreting contexts, continued development of translation skills, and essential research competencies. Additional optional modules such as Introduction to the Translation and Interpreting Professions and Liaison Interpreting for Business allow further specialisation. The program concludes in May with the MSc Dissertation, an independent research project that enables students to explore a topic of interest within Translation and Interpreting Studies, fostering critical thinking and in-depth analysis. Throughout the course, students also develop transferable skills, including communication, presentation, teamwork, and ICT proficiency, preparing them for professional careers as interpreters and translators in a wide range of international and professional contexts.
