COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Imaging, Vision and High Performance Computing is structured across three semesters of 60 credits each, with the first two semesters focused entirely on compulsory taught courses from both the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University. In Semester 1, students study Threaded Programming, High Performance Computing Architectures, and Message-Passing Programming at Edinburgh, alongside Optimisation and Deep Learning for Imaging and Vision I and Foundations of Learning and Computer Vision at Heriot-Watt. These modules build strong foundations in parallel programming, HPC systems, computer vision, and deep learning. Semester 2 continues with advanced technical study, including Accelerated Systems: Principles and Practice, Performance Programming, and Machine Learning at Scale from Edinburgh, paired with Graph Methods for Imaging, Vision and Computing and Optimisation and Deep Learning for Imaging and Vision II from Heriot-Watt. Across both semesters, students also complete preparatory research activities to build skills needed for their dissertation. At the start of the program, students are invited to participate in an optional programming boot camp at the University of Edinburgh, which is recommended to strengthen practical coding skills. Semester 3 is dedicated to an individual dissertation project supervised jointly across the two institutions, allowing students to apply their learning to a specialised research topic.
