COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Biomedical Engineering curriculum includes a combination of mandatory and optional modules that build strong interdisciplinary knowledge across engineering, biology, manufacturing and research. In September, core courses such as The Engineering-Biology Interface and Manufacture in Bioengineering develop understanding of how engineering principles are applied within biological and medical contexts, including processes used in biomedical manufacturing. Across the academic year, students collaborate on the Multidisciplinary Biomedical Engineering Group Design Project, gaining hands-on experience in problem-solving, teamwork and the development of innovative biomedical solutions. In January, Technology Entrepreneurship 5 and Critical Analysis and Research Preparation strengthen skills in business thinking, research planning and evaluation of scientific literature, preparing students to lead projects and engage in evidence-based practice. Students can tailor their learning through optional modules such as Introduction to Bioelectronics, Technologies for Biosystems, Sensors and Instrumentation, Lab-on-Chip Technologies, Regulation of Safe and Sustainable Development of Substances, and Biomaterials, allowing them to specialise in areas aligned with future career pathways such as bioelectronics, biosystem design, medical materials or regulatory science. The program culminates in a Masters Dissertation in May, where students undertake an independent research project that integrates knowledge from the entire program and showcases their ability to contribute to advancing biomedical engineering practice and technology development.
