COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Data Science program combines mandatory and optional courses to provide a comprehensive foundation in data science theory and practice. In the September semester, students take Practical Data Science and Software Fundamentals for Data Science, which introduce essential programming, analytical, and computational skills. Optional courses in the same semester, such as Mathematical Tools for Data Science, Modelling and Tools, Databases and Information Systems, and Probability and Statistics for Data Science, allow students to tailor their learning and deepen their understanding of key analytical techniques and data management. In the January semester, mandatory courses include Data Storytelling and Data Mining, focusing on communicating insights effectively and extracting valuable patterns from complex datasets. Additional optional courses in this semester, such as Project Management, Data Assimilation, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital and Knowledge Economy, provide opportunities to explore specialised topics and develop practical skills relevant to industry and research applications. The program culminates in the Applied Data Science Dissertation during the May semester, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills to a substantial, independent project. This may involve collaboration with external organisations, giving real-world experience in handling and analysing large-scale data. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities, preparing them for successful careers in data science across a variety of sectors.
