COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Cyber Security is structured to provide a balanced combination of mandatory and elective courses, ensuring students gain both core expertise and complementary skills needed in the field of cyber security. In the first semester, students undertake mandatory courses such as Computer Network Security, which provides the foundation for understanding threats, vulnerabilities, and protective measures for modern networks. Elective courses in the same semester, including Data Mining and Machine Learning, Industrial Programming, Systems Programming, Software Engineering Foundations, Data Communications and Networking, and Internet of Things, offer additional technical skills that support cyber security applications and enable students to design and analyse complex security solutions. In the second semester, mandatory courses include Advanced Network Security, Digital Forensics, and Research Methods and Project Planning, which develop advanced knowledge of cyber threat mitigation, forensic investigation, and project management in a research context. Electives such as Project Management, Advanced Software Engineering, and Big Data Management allow students to further tailor their learning to industry-relevant skills. The program culminates in the Masters Project and Dissertation, providing students with the opportunity to conduct an independent research project, applying their theoretical understanding and practical skills to real-world cyber security problems. This structure equips graduates with the technical, analytical, and professional capabilities required for careers in cyber security, digital forensics, network administration, and related fields.
