COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Advanced Structural Engineering program provides students with a combination of mandatory and optional modules designed to develop advanced technical expertise in civil and structural engineering. In the September semester, students study the Finite Element Method for Linear Analysis, a core module that equips them with essential computational skills for structural analysis. They can also choose from a range of optional modules, including Advanced Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures, Geotechnical Applications, Climate Change, Sustainability and Adaptation, Structural Element Design, Sustainability for Construction Professionals, Structural Materials, and Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, allowing them to tailor their learning to specific interests. In the January semester, mandatory modules include Plastic Analysis of Structures and Advanced Design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Structures, which deepen knowledge in advanced structural design and analysis. Optional modules cover Sustainable and Intelligent Buildings, Design of Low Carbon Buildings, Finite Element Method Nonlinear Analysis, Foundation Engineering, Safety, Risk and Reliability, and Energy Systems and Buildings, providing further specialization and practical application opportunities. The program culminates in a Research Dissertation in Civil Engineering, enabling students to conduct independent, in-depth research on a topic of their choice. Overall, the combination of taught modules and the dissertation equips graduates with the knowledge, analytical skills, and practical experience required to excel as professional structural engineers in both national and international contexts.
