COURSE CURRICULUM

The Urban Design program offers a structured pathway that builds knowledge and professional skills across two years. In Year 1, students begin in September with core modules that introduce the principles of Urban Design for Health and Wellbeing, exploring how built environments influence quality of life and public health. Design Project 1 provides hands-on experience applying creative and technical design approaches, while Urban Design Theory develops an understanding of historical and contemporary perspectives shaping urban planning and architectural decisions. In January, the focus moves to sustainability and technology through the Sustainable and Intelligent Buildings module, where students learn strategies for environmentally responsible and smart building solutions. Design Project 2 offers a continuation of practical studio-based learning, advancing design capabilities, and Research Methods builds essential academic skills for undertaking systematic investigation and evidence-based design work. In Year 2, students progress to advanced independent study. Beginning in September, they complete a Research Investigation that forms the foundation for their major project, alongside Design Thesis 1, which develops a personal design agenda and prepares for final presentation. In January, Design Thesis 2 brings the program to completion through a final project demonstrating mastery of design thinking, research, and professional communication.
