COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics with Statistics program is designed to provide a rigorous foundation in both mathematics and statistics while gradually easing the transition from school to university. In the first year, students build core skills in calculus, algebra, probability, and statistics, alongside problem-solving techniques and the use of computer packages, with options to explore logic and discrete mathematics. The second year advances this foundation through multivariable calculus, real analysis, linear algebra, and probability and statistics, while introducing pure and applied mathematics as well as numerical analysis. In the third year, students engage with more advanced topics including abstract algebra, complex analysis, ordinary differential equations, vector analysis, and statistical modelling, with opportunities to deepen knowledge in further applied and numerical methods. The final year focuses on specialised statistical techniques such as stochastic processes, Bayesian inference, time series analysis, and statistics for social science, alongside advanced mathematics options including functional analysis, optimisation, partial differential equations, and topology. Throughout the program, students develop critical analytical skills, computational proficiency, and the ability to apply theoretical concepts to practical problems. Graduates emerge with a strong quantitative skill set, well-prepared for careers in finance, data science, engineering, research, and other sectors requiring robust mathematical and statistical expertise.
