COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Geography program offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience across physical and human geography. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through courses in dynamic earth systems, human geography, and contemporary global challenges, supplemented by fieldwork and collaborative projects. Year two expands this foundation with modules on surveying, GIS, catchment hydrology, geomorphology, landscapes, and urban studies, while providing opportunities to explore optional subjects such as biology, global economics, and professional skills. In the third year, students deepen their understanding of marine and coastal environments, river geomorphology, global environmental change, and spatial analysis, while engaging with advanced theories and methods in geography. The final year focuses on applying knowledge through a dissertation and professional practice, alongside specialized modules in flood management, environmental geo-data science, climate change adaptation, and innovative technologies. Optional courses allow students to explore emerging areas such as machine learning, urban drainage, nature-based solutions, and social sustainability. Throughout the program, students develop essential skills in fieldwork, data collection, analysis, GIS mapping, and interdisciplinary problem-solving. This integrated approach ensures graduates are well-prepared for careers in environmental consultancy, research, policy development, and a variety of roles requiring analytical, practical, and problem-solving expertise in geography and related disciplines.
