COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Communication Design program is structured to guide students progressively through core skills, specialist topics, and advanced practice over four years. In the first year, students focus on foundational design and visualisation skills, including photography, visual development, design thinking, illustration, and introductions to communication design and creative media. These initial courses establish a strong base for creative exploration and problem-solving. In the second year, the curriculum builds on these fundamentals by introducing more specialised subjects such as typography, videography, advertising, and creative writing, alongside professional practice and graphics, allowing students to develop a broader skill set and apply their knowledge to practical projects. The third year encourages students to explore elective specialisations, initially focusing on graphics and illustration, with courses in art direction, storytelling, design branding, advanced communication design, and collaborative studio work, fostering creative independence and professional readiness. In the final honours year, students undertake a two-semester honours project supported by supervisory guidance, alongside advanced evaluative practice and review through minor and final projects. This stage consolidates their learning and enables them to produce a comprehensive body of work demonstrating technical expertise, conceptual depth, and professional skills. By graduation, students are prepared to enter the global design industry, equipped with the creative, analytical, and practical abilities needed to innovate and influence across multiple design disciplines.
