COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is designed for individuals aiming to qualify and practise as animal physiotherapists, with professional registration through the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy. It provides a comprehensive foundation across both MSc and Postgraduate Diploma levels, covering key areas such as clinical practice preparation, applied anatomy, biomechanics, veterinary diagnostics, research methods, and business management. During the first year, students develop a strong understanding of animal behaviour, physiology, pathology, and physiotherapy assessment, enabling them to confidently assess horses and dogs and apply clinical reasoning to create effective treatment plans. Practical learning is central to the course, with extensive hands-on sessions involving animals and regular placement days to build real-world experience. In the second year, students expand their expertise through modules in business management, rehabilitation techniques, and applied research in veterinary practice, further strengthening their clinical and professional skills. Upon completing the second year or postgraduate diploma, students are eligible to register and practise as professional animal therapists. Those continuing to the third year of the MSc undertake a significant research project tailored to their interests, often contributing to industry knowledge through publication or conference presentations. Overall, the program prepares graduates for a successful career in veterinary physiotherapy.
