COURSE CURRICULUM

The Deconstructing and Reconstructing Coaching Practice modules provide students with opportunities to critically examine and refine their coaching approaches using a theory-practice-reflection cycle. These modules encourage self-awareness, professional development, and the integration of evidence-based theory into practical coaching, helping students become both theoretically-informed and practically-aware practitioners. The Postgraduate Industry Placement Experience bridges academic learning and real-world application, requiring students to complete 200 hours in a pre-approved professional setting, enhancing practical skills, industry understanding, and professional networks. Reflective Practice develops critical reflective skills, enabling coaches to evaluate and improve their decision-making, teaching, and leadership approaches. The Scientific Coach module equips MSc students with the skills to review current research and conduct original studies, fostering research literacy and the ability to apply findings to coaching practice. High Performing Environments introduces students to leadership strategies and the principles of building and sustaining high-performance teams, emphasizing the factors that drive success in elite sport settings. The Sports Coaching Extended Project allows MSc students to create a portfolio of outputs, such as review reports and presentations, integrating course learning with workplace application. Overall, the modules combine practical experience, reflective development, and research engagement to prepare graduates for leadership, innovation, and evidence-informed practice in a variety of coaching contexts.
