COURSE CURRICULUM

This degree covers a broad range of topics designed to build knowledge and practical skills in biodiversity conservation while preparing students for careers in this evolving field. Students earn academic credits through a series of modules, contributing toward their final award classification. The Applied Principles of Conservation module focuses on theoretical knowledge and its application to real-world challenges, including achieving no net loss of biodiversity by 2030, Environmental Impact Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain, alongside project planning training. Practical Skills and Technology in Conservation develops essential field and technical skills such as species surveying, plant identification, GIS mapping, and the use of advanced tools like drones, telemetry, and acoustic monitoring, supported by extensive fieldwork. Conservation in Agriculture explores sustainable land practices such as rewilding, soil ecology, and agroforestry through partnerships and site visits. The Wildlife Conflict module examines causes and solutions to conflicts between humans and wildlife, considering ecological and social impacts. The Research Process module builds understanding of research methods, while Captive Exotics and Wildlife Policy and Law introduces legislation and management of wildlife and zoological systems, including international agreements. Finally, the postgraduate dissertation allows students to conduct an independent research project under supervision, integrating their learning into practical conservation work.
