COURSE CURRICULUM

The Equestrian Science MRes provides a structured and flexible program combining compulsory and optional modules to develop advanced research and applied skills within equine science. Compulsory modules include the Extended Postgraduate Research Project, where students independently design, conduct, and report on a significant research project, and The Research Process, which explores research methodologies, their applications, and strengths and limitations. Investigating Equestrian Research introduces students to a wide range of industry-relevant research topics and methods, including seminar and conference participation, while Applied Research Practice develops skills in literature review, data analysis, project design, and dissemination of research findings. Students can complement these core modules by selecting two optional modules aligned with their specific interests and career goals. Optional modules include Advances in Equestrian Biomechanics, focusing on applying biomechanical principles to equestrian performance, and Applied Equine Exercise Physiology, which examines physiological adaptations and training applications across disciplines. Developing a Sustainable Equine Industry and Equine Management for Optimal Performance and Welfare explore ethical considerations, welfare, and industry sustainability. Equine Behaviour, Rider Performance, Therapy and Rehabilitation of the Equine Athlete, and Postgraduate Independent Study provide opportunities to investigate learning, management, rider-horse interactions, and therapeutic techniques. The program equips students with practical experience, critical thinking, and research expertise to impact equestrian performance, welfare, and industry practices.
