COURSE CURRICULUM

The Strength and Conditioning degree with Foundation Year is designed to prepare students for careers in sport science by combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The foundation year focuses on developing academic skills, reviewing literature, and building a grounding in biological principles and sports science. In the first year, students study core topics such as human biology, anatomy, physiology, sports science, business, and enterprise management, while developing essential academic and professional skills. In the second year, the focus shifts to key strength and conditioning concepts, exercise physiology, sports psychology, biomechanics, and applied research skills, alongside the fundamentals of training and performance development. The third year builds on this knowledge through advanced modules in applied strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, sports nutrition, biomechanics, and research methods, preparing students to apply scientific principles to real-world performance settings. In the final year, students explore professional practices in strength and conditioning, working with athletes to understand monitoring, rehabilitation, and recovery strategies, while completing an independent research dissertation. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as performance nutrition, biomechanics, and working with special populations. Throughout the course, students gain practical experience, develop critical thinking and analytical skills, and are prepared to work in multidisciplinary sports science environments, ensuring they graduate ready for careers in performance enhancement and athlete development.
