COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Therapy (with Foundation Year) BSc (Hons) program is designed to develop students into highly skilled sports therapy practitioners through a combination of academic study, practical experience, and professional development. The foundation year introduces students to academic skills, biological principles, and sports science, preparing them for undergraduate study and future career pathways. In the second year, students build core knowledge in anatomy, peripheral joint assessment, soft tissue therapy, exercise prescription, strength and conditioning, and sport and exercise science, while completing applied practical opportunities to develop hands-on skills. The third year focuses on advanced applied skills, including musculoskeletal assessment, rehabilitation, manual therapy for peripheral and spinal injuries, sport and exercise science applications, and professional practice, enabling students to integrate theory with clinical experience. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through advanced professional practice, injury management, applied strength and conditioning, injury prevention, return to sport, and a substantial sport research project. Extensive placement opportunities, totaling a minimum of 250 hours, allow students to gain real-world experience in clinical, sport, and exercise settings. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers as autonomous sports therapists capable of delivering effective assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and performance support across a range of athletic and health-focused environments.
