COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Coaching (with Foundation Year) BSc (Hons) program provides a structured pathway for students to develop the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed for a career in sports coaching. The foundation year introduces essential academic skills, biological principles, and sports science, preparing students for undergraduate study and giving them a strong grounding in research, professional development, and business awareness. In the second year, students begin to develop their own coaching identity through modules covering coaching theory, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, sports psychology, and the sport and education industries, while gaining practical experience through applied coaching opportunities. The third year allows students to build on core skills and explore specialized topics, such as pedagogy, coach mentoring, and professional practice, while optional modules offer the chance to focus on sports science, health, inclusion, youth development, and sports management. In the final year, students consolidate their expertise through advanced applied coaching concepts, professional development, and a substantial sport research project, while optional pathways enable further specialization in performance coaching, community coaching, sport for development, and contemporary issues in sport and education. Throughout the program, students gain extensive practical experience, develop a coaching portfolio, and refine their personal coaching philosophy, ensuring they graduate ready to work effectively across community, performance, and educational coaching contexts.
