COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Sciences (with Foundation Year) BSc (Hons) program is structured to develop students’ knowledge and skills progressively over four years. The foundation year introduces students to sport, science, and study skills, covering topics such as academic literacy, professional development, sports science principles, and business enterprise, providing support to succeed at higher levels. In the second year, students gain a theoretical understanding of core disciplines, including anatomy, exercise physiology, sports psychology, strength and conditioning, and biomechanics, alongside developing research, data analysis, and academic skills essential for the industry. The third year allows students to build on these foundations while exploring specialized areas such as sports nutrition, health-related exercise, injuries, performance analysis, and applied biomechanics, combining theoretical learning with practical application to enhance performance and wellbeing. The final year emphasizes independent research, professional practice, and advanced application, including an undergraduate dissertation focused on contemporary challenges in sport and exercise sciences. Students select modules aligned with their career goals, including applied sport psychology, applied physiology, and biomechanics in practice, while optional modules offer further specialization in areas such as performance analysis, recovery, special populations, and performance nutrition. Overall, the program combines scientific theory, practical experience, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in sport, exercise, health, and performance-focused roles.
