COURSE CURRICULUM

The Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation degree with Foundation Year is structured to develop students from foundational academic skills to advanced, industry-focused expertise. In the foundation year, students build essential study skills while gaining introductory knowledge of biological science and equine studies, including anatomy, physiology, welfare, and management. The second year introduces the thoroughbred racing industry alongside core scientific topics such as functional anatomy, veterinary science, and facility management, helping students understand how biology and industry practices combine to influence performance. In the third year, students explore more advanced concepts including performance physiology, diagnostics, and rehabilitation techniques, while developing research skills and optionally completing work placements or study trips to enhance real-world experience. They also study performance analysis and the global horseracing industry, with opportunities to specialise through optional modules such as nutrition, behaviour, or hydrotherapy. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics including equine performance analysis, therapy, and rehabilitation, alongside governance and law within horseracing. A key component is the dissertation, allowing independent research into a specialist area. Overall, the course combines science, practical skills, and industry insight to prepare graduates for careers in racehorse performance, rehabilitation, and the wider equestrian sector.
