COURSE CURRICULUM

The Equine Science degree with Foundation Year provides a structured progression from fundamental scientific knowledge to advanced, specialised study of horses and their biology. In the foundation year, students build essential academic skills while gaining an introduction to biological science and the equine industry, including horse anatomy, physiology, welfare, and management. The second year develops core scientific understanding, covering topics such as equine anatomy, nutrition, genetics, veterinary science, and the wider equine industry, alongside practical laboratory and data analysis skills. In the third year, students explore more complex areas including exercise physiology, disease, reproduction, and nutrition, while beginning to tailor their studies through optional modules such as behaviour, biomechanics, or microbiology. This stage also strengthens research skills in preparation for independent study. In the final year, students engage with current developments and challenges in equine science, further specialising through optional modules like sports medicine, rehabilitation, or pharmacology. A key component is the dissertation, where students conduct independent research on a chosen topic. Overall, the course combines theory, practical application, and research to prepare graduates for careers within the equine science and veterinary-related industries.
