COURSE CURRICULUM

The Equine Performance and Rehabilitation degree with Foundation Year is designed to build students’ knowledge and practical skills progressively across each year of study. In the foundation year, students develop essential academic abilities while gaining a basic understanding of biological science and equine studies, including anatomy, physiology, welfare, and management. The second year introduces key scientific and industry topics such as functional anatomy, veterinary science, nutrition, and equine facility management, alongside developing professional and practical competencies needed for rehabilitation roles. In the third year, students focus on more specialised areas including musculoskeletal diagnostics, performance analysis, and rehabilitation techniques, while also completing a professional work placement to gain valuable industry experience. Optional modules allow exploration of areas such as behaviour, nutrition, and hydrotherapy. In the final year, students advance their expertise through modules in equine performance analysis and rehabilitation in practice, enhancing both theoretical understanding and hands-on skills. They also complete an independent dissertation, demonstrating their ability to conduct research in a chosen area. Additional optional modules, such as biomechanics or welfare, allow further specialisation. Overall, the course combines scientific knowledge, practical training, and real-world experience to prepare students for careers in equine performance and rehabilitation.
