COURSE CURRICULUM

The Equine Dental Science degree with Foundation Year is structured to build essential academic knowledge before progressing into specialised dental training. In the foundation year, students develop key study skills, scientific understanding, and knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, welfare, and management, alongside gaining confidence in research, teamwork, and time management. This prepares them for degree-level study. In the following year, students are introduced to the core principles of equine dental science, focusing on anatomy and physiology of the equine head and teeth, as well as the practical role of an Equine Dental Technician. They gain hands-on understanding of dental instrumentation, horse handling, and the tools required for professional practice. Alongside this, students study equine nutrition and the wider equine industry, building a well-rounded understanding of how dental health fits within overall horse care. The course also supports personal and professional development, helping students understand their influence, communication skills, and behaviour within the industry. Overall, these early stages provide the essential knowledge, practical skills, and professional awareness needed to progress into more advanced training and real-world equine dental practice later in the degree.
