COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bioveterinary Science degree with Foundation Year is structured over four years to develop students’ scientific knowledge, practical skills, and understanding of animal health and disease. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in animal studies, biology, and academic skills, including research methods, scientific enquiry, and professional development. The second year focuses on core scientific disciplines such as anatomy and physiology, genetics, biochemistry, animal health, behaviour, and welfare, alongside developing key professional and transferable skills. In the third year, students advance their knowledge by studying more specialised topics including pathology, microbiology, parasitology, nutrition, and biomechanics, while also developing research skills and having the option to explore areas such as animal production or biochemistry and toxicology. The final year allows students to specialise further and prepare for their future careers through advanced modules in immunology, pharmacology, and epidemiology, alongside a dissertation research project on a topic of their choice. Students also explore contemporary challenges and current research within the field. Overall, the course combines theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and research skills to prepare graduates for careers in animal science, veterinary-related fields, research, and the wider animal health industry.
