COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animal Behaviour and Training (Clinical) degree with Foundation Year is structured over four years to develop students’ knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence in animal behaviour and training. In the first year, students build a strong academic foundation, focusing on biological principles, animal care, research skills, and professional development. The second year introduces core topics such as animal learning and training, health and disease, anatomy and physiology, and human-animal interactions, while also developing practical and transferable skills through work experience. In the third year, students explore more advanced concepts including the physiology of behaviour, animal management and training, and the prevention of problematic behaviours, alongside gaining research skills and further industry experience. This stage aligns with professional standards for roles such as Animal Training Instructor and Animal Behaviour Technician. The final year focuses on advanced study and specialisation, including topics such as advanced animal training, anthrozoology, and cognitive ethology. Students also complete a major research dissertation and analyse real-world clinical case studies to develop intervention strategies. Throughout the course, practical experience and academic learning are combined to prepare graduates for professional roles in animal training, behaviour consultancy, and welfare-focused careers.
