COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agriculture degree with Foundation Year is structured to progressively develop students’ scientific knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience across four years. In the foundation year, students gain essential knowledge in agriculture, biology, and academic skills, including research methods, scientific enquiry, and professional development. The second year builds on this foundation by introducing key topics such as livestock and crop science, soil and grassland management, and agricultural technologies, alongside developing transferable skills and completing around 280 hours of industry placement. In the third year, students deepen their understanding of modern agriculture through modules in farm business management, agricultural policy, agronomy, and livestock health, while also engaging with industry to apply their learning in real-world contexts. The final year focuses on advanced study and specialisation, including an independent research dissertation aligned with personal interests. Students also explore important contemporary issues such as sustainability, social licence, and one health, alongside developments in crop or livestock science. Optional modules allow further exploration of areas such as supply chain management, strategic management, or livestock nutrition. Overall, the program combines scientific theory, practical experience, and industry engagement to prepare graduates for diverse careers in a modern, sustainable agricultural sector.
