COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Zoology program is structured over three years to develop a strong understanding of animal biology, behaviour, ecology, and conservation, while building practical field and research skills. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through modules in comparative animal physiology, genetics, biodiversity, evolution, animal behaviour and welfare, ecology, and animal health, alongside developing essential academic and professional skills. The second year focuses on applying this knowledge to real-world contexts, with modules in conservation biology, behavioural ecology, and research methods, as well as practical fieldwork through a field course that may include international or UK-based study experiences. Students also learn techniques for measuring animal behaviour and may choose optional modules such as animals in education or human behaviour change. In the final year, the program emphasizes specialization and independent research, with students completing a dissertation supported by academic guidance. Core modules explore wildlife conservation in captivity, global biodiversity, and professional skills for zoological careers, while optional topics such as anthrozoology and epidemiology allow further exploration of specific interests. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, observational, and practical skills, preparing them for careers in zoology, conservation, research, and wildlife management.
