COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Biosciences program is structured over three years to build strong scientific knowledge, practical skills, and research experience in animal health and disease. In the first year, students develop a solid foundation in subjects such as anatomy and physiology, genetics, biochemistry, animal health, behaviour, and welfare, alongside essential academic and professional skills. Students must achieve an average of at least 60 percent to continue on this pathway; otherwise, they may transfer to the BSc Bioveterinary Science program. The second year focuses on applying scientific knowledge to veterinary contexts, with modules in disease and parasitology, microbiology, animal production, nutrition, biochemistry, and pathology. Students also gain practical experience working with a range of species through on-site facilities and industry exposure, supporting future applications to veterinary medicine. In the final year, the emphasis shifts to advanced study and independent research. Students complete a research project and explore topics such as advanced microbiology, epidemiology, immunology, and pharmacology, gaining insight into disease processes, diagnostics, and treatment. They also develop investigative and analytical skills essential for scientific careers. Overall, the program combines theory, hands-on experience, and research, preparing graduates for careers in veterinary science, animal health, research, or further study in veterinary medicine.
