COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning degree is designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience required to work as strength and conditioning practitioners. In the first year, students develop foundational understanding in areas such as exercise physiology, sports psychology, biomechanics, functional anatomy, and the principles and fundamentals of strength and conditioning, alongside academic skills, research design, and data analysis. This year emphasizes building teamwork, leadership, and analytical skills essential for applied sport science. In the second year, students advance their learning through modules on applied strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, health-related exercise, applied biomechanics, sports and exercise nutrition, and research methods. These modules provide opportunities to apply theory to practice, enhancing athletes’ performance while developing an understanding of multidisciplinary approaches. The final year focuses on professional practice and preparation for industry, including applied sport and exercise physiology, recovery and monitoring, developing youth athletes, and a substantial research dissertation. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as biomechanics, special populations, and performance nutrition. Throughout the degree, students gain practical experience working with athletes, developing skills in assessment, rehabilitation, programming, and monitoring, ensuring graduates leave ready to enter professional environments in sport performance, applied strength and conditioning, and athlete development.
