COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sports Performance degree is structured over three years to develop students’ knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence within the sports industry. In the first year, students study foundational modules in sports psychology, exercise physiology, and strength and conditioning, alongside academic skills, research and data analysis, and an introduction to professional practice, which includes 60 hours of industry experience. The second year builds on this foundation, introducing specialist modules in performance analysis, sports nutrition, and sport injuries, supported by applied research and professional practice, with an additional 80 hours of industry experience. Students develop an understanding of interdisciplinary approaches within sports performance environments and learn to apply scientific research methods to real-world contexts. In the final year, students focus on advanced professional practice, high-performing teams, and an independent sport research project, with the opportunity to gain 50 hours of additional industry experience. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as performance analysis in practice, performance nutrition, sport and social media, sport sponsorship and brand development, and developing the young athlete. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on bridging theory and practice, developing graduate-level research and professional skills, and preparing students to succeed in a variety of roles within elite sport, coaching, performance support, and related sports industry careers.
