COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching degree is structured to progressively develop students’ coaching knowledge, practical skills, and professional identity. In the first year, students are introduced to a broad range of topics including coaching practice, exercise physiology, sport psychology, and strength and conditioning, alongside academic and research skills. Emphasis is placed on applying coaching theory in practical settings and gaining experience through real-world learning opportunities. In the second year, students begin to specialise by selecting optional modules aligned with their interests, while continuing to build core competencies in pedagogy, research methods, and professional development. Modules such as coach mentoring and professional placement help students gain practical experience and develop their coaching philosophy and employability skills. In the final year, students focus on refining their coaching practice and preparing for their future careers. They complete a research project on a topic of their choice and study advanced coaching concepts, professional development, and contemporary issues in sport. Optional pathways allow students to specialise in areas such as community coaching, sport for development, performance analysis, or high-performance team environments. Throughout the course, the combination of academic study, applied practice, and industry engagement ensures graduates are well-prepared for a wide range of coaching roles in both community and performance sport settings.
