COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Sciences degree is structured to build a strong foundation in key scientific principles while allowing students to specialise according to their interests. In the first year, students gain a broad understanding of core disciplines such as functional anatomy, exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, biomechanics, and strength and conditioning, alongside developing academic, research, and data analysis skills. This year also introduces how multidisciplinary teams operate in sport science environments. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge through modules in exercise physiology, applied biomechanics, sport and exercise psychology, and research methods, while exploring career pathways and professional development. Optional modules enable students to tailor their learning in areas such as performance analysis, health-related exercise, nutrition, and sports injuries. In the final year, students focus on their chosen areas of interest, completing a research project and studying advanced topics such as applied sport psychology, physiology, or biomechanics. Additional optional modules provide further specialisation in areas like performance analysis, recovery and monitoring, special populations, and performance nutrition. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on combining theory with practical application, developing research skills, and preparing students for careers in sport science, performance support, health, or further academic study.
