COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Nutrition degree is designed to develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for a career in sports nutrition and applied sport science. In the first year, students build a strong foundation by studying core topics such as functional anatomy, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, sports nutrition, and biomechanics, alongside academic skills, research methods, and data analysis. This year emphasizes developing professional and teamwork skills essential for success in the sports industry. The second year expands on these principles with more specialised modules including applied nutrition, exercise physiology, health-related exercise, sport and exercise psychology, ergogenic aids, and independent research. Students also gain insight into how multidisciplinary teams operate and apply research methods in practice. Between the second and final year, there is an optional integrated placement year, providing hands-on industry experience. In the final year, students complete a sport research project and professional practice modules, while advancing their knowledge of sports nutrition for elite athletes, applied physiology, and advanced sports nutrition, including considerations for youth, disabled, and clinical populations. Optional modules such as applied sport psychology and exercise for special populations allow further specialisation. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on integrating academic theory, research, and practical application to prepare graduates for careers in sports nutrition, performance support, and applied sport science.
