COURSE CURRICULUM

The Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation degree is structured over three years to develop a strong understanding of both the science and industry of horseracing. In the first year, students gain a foundation in the biology and management of racehorses, including anatomy, physiology, health, and nutrition, alongside an introduction to the horseracing industry and equestrian facility management. The second year builds on this knowledge by focusing on performance physiology, biomechanics, and diagnostic techniques, allowing students to understand how racehorses are trained, assessed, and rehabilitated. Students also study research methods and the international racing industry, with opportunities to undertake work placements and optional modules in areas such as nutrition, behaviour, hydrotherapy, and stud management. In the final year, students specialise further by selecting modules aligned with their interests, such as sports medicine, biomechanics, or rehabilitation therapies, while completing an independent research dissertation. Core topics include performance analysis, therapy and rehabilitation, and governance within the horseracing industry. Throughout the course, students combine scientific theory with practical experience, developing the ability to analyse performance, apply rehabilitation techniques, and understand industry structures. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in equine performance, rehabilitation, and the wider horseracing sector.
