COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology degree is structured over three years to progressively develop knowledge, research skills, and professional competence. In the first year, students gain a strong foundation by exploring the history of psychology, core areas such as cognitive, biological, social, and developmental psychology, and introductory research methods. They also begin developing professional and ethical skills while examining how psychology is applied in real-world contexts. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced study of brain and behaviour, social and cultural influences, lifespan development, and individual differences. Students enhance their research abilities through advanced methods and data analysis, while further exploring practical applications of psychology across different fields. In the final year, the focus shifts towards professional development, critical thinking, and independent research. Students complete a dissertation on a chosen topic and study specialised areas such as wellbeing, positive psychology, community and cultural psychology, and contemporary issues in the field. Emphasis is placed on ethical practice, diversity, and evidence-based approaches. Throughout the course, students develop strong analytical, communication, and research skills, preparing them for a wide range of careers or further study in psychology and related disciplines.
