COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sport and Exercise Perspectives degree provides a comprehensive and applied understanding of psychology within sport and exercise contexts. In the first year, students study all seven core areas required for British Psychological Society accreditation, including social, biological, cognitive, developmental, individual differences, conceptual and historical issues, and research methods, alongside the application of psychology to sport and exercise. Modules focus on the history of psychology, professional skills, cognitive and biological psychology, social and developmental psychology, research methods, and the psychology of sport and exercise, with practical activities supporting real-world learning and career exploration. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge through modules in social and cultural psychology, brain and behaviour, advanced research methods, lifespan development, individual differences, and applications of psychology in sport and exercise environments. The curriculum emphasizes applied learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and bridging theory with practice. In the third year, students consolidate their learning through contemporary topics, evidence-based wellbeing practice, positive psychology, advances in sport and exercise psychology, and contemporary issues in the field. A dissertation allows independent research under supervision. Overall, the program develops critical thinking, practical competence, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in psychology, sport and exercise psychology, wellbeing, and related professional or academic pathways.
