COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Human-Animal Interaction with Psychology program is structured over three years to develop a strong understanding of both human psychology and animal behaviour, with a focus on their interactions. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in psychology, animal biology, behaviour, welfare, and health, while also developing essential academic and professional skills through practical experience and work placements. The second year deepens this understanding by applying psychological principles to human-animal relationships, covering topics such as behaviour change, animal-assisted interventions, and measuring animal behaviour. Students also gain research skills and explore how animals contribute to education and wellbeing, with optional modules allowing further specialization in areas such as companion animal training or equine behaviour. In the final year, the program focuses on advanced theory and real-world application, including contemporary issues in anthrozoology and applied psychology. Students complete an independent dissertation, enabling them to investigate a specialised topic in depth, and undertake professional experience to apply their knowledge in practical settings. Optional modules such as cognitive ethology and animal welfare further enhance expertise. Overall, the program combines scientific knowledge, psychological insight, and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in animal welfare, therapy, education, research, and other fields involving human-animal interactions.
