COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Equine Science degree is structured across three years, progressively building knowledge and practical expertise. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation by studying core topics such as equine anatomy, genetics, nutrition, veterinary science, and the structure of the equine industry, alongside essential laboratory and data analysis skills. The second year deepens understanding through modules like exercise physiology, disease, reproductive biology, and advanced nutrition, while also introducing research methods. Students can tailor their learning with optional modules, including animal microbiology, equine behaviour, biomechanics, and stud management, as well as opportunities for international academic experience. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation, allowing them to research a topic of personal interest, and explore recent developments in equine research. Additional optional modules focus on advanced and applied topics such as equine sports medicine, therapy and rehabilitation, pharmacology, performance nutrition, and biomechanics. Throughout the course, the curriculum integrates scientific theory with practical application, ensuring students gain both academic knowledge and industry-relevant skills. This comprehensive structure prepares graduates for diverse careers within the equine and animal science industries, as well as further academic or research opportunities.
