COURSE CURRICULUM

The Equine Performance and Rehabilitation degree is structured over three years to develop a strong combination of scientific knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience. In the first year, students build a foundation in equine anatomy, veterinary science, nutrition, and facility management, alongside gaining an understanding of the wider equine industry and developing essential professional skills. The second year focuses on applying this knowledge to performance and rehabilitation, with modules covering musculoskeletal diagnostics, performance analysis, and rehabilitation techniques. Students also develop research skills and complete a professional work placement of at least 150 hours, gaining valuable real-world experience. Optional modules allow further exploration of areas such as nutrition, behaviour, and hydrotherapy. In the final year, students specialise further and complete an independent research dissertation. Core modules include advanced performance analysis and practical rehabilitation, where students refine their ability to evaluate and implement therapeutic training programs. Additional optional modules provide opportunities to explore topics such as biomechanics, welfare, nutrition, and professional communication. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on combining theory with hands-on experience, ensuring graduates are well prepared to support equine performance and rehabilitation. Overall, the program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in equine therapy, rehabilitation, and performance management.
