COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour and Training (Clinical) program is structured over three years to develop a strong foundation in animal behaviour, training, health, and welfare, while progressively advancing students’ knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, students focus on core topics such as animal learning, health and disease, anatomy and physiology, and the role of animals in society, alongside developing essential academic and professional skills. Practical experience is supported through work placements, aligning with the Animal Trainer level of the Animal Behaviour and Training Council. The second year builds on this foundation by exploring more advanced concepts, including the physiology of animal behaviour, animal management and training, and strategies to understand and prevent problematic behaviours. Students also enhance their research and communication skills while gaining further work experience, meeting the standards for Animal Training Instructor and Animal Behaviour Technician levels. In the final year, the focus shifts to advanced theory and real-world application, including clinical case studies, cognitive ethology, and human-animal interactions. Students also complete an independent research dissertation, developing their ability to investigate and report on specialised topics. Overall, the program integrates academic learning, practical experience, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in animal behaviour, training, and welfare, including clinical and consultancy roles.
