COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Crop Science program is structured over three years to provide a strong balance of scientific knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience with a focus on crop production and sustainability. In the first year, students develop foundational understanding through modules in sustainable agriculture, agricultural economics, crop science, soil and grassland management, and agricultural technologies, alongside building essential academic and professional skills. Practical exposure is gained through an agricultural placement that enhances employability. The second year emphasizes applied learning, with modules in agronomy, vegetable and soft fruit production, forage crops, and farm business management, combined with research methods and industry engagement to strengthen real-world understanding and technical competence. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation, allowing them to explore a specialized topic in depth with academic support. Additional modules focus on supply chain management, strategic management, and the concepts of social licence and One Health, highlighting sustainability and decision-making in modern agriculture. Advanced study in crop science further develops critical analysis of innovations in crop production and protection. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience, industry insight, and analytical skills, preparing them for diverse careers and enabling them to contribute effectively to sustainable agricultural systems.
