COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Rural Estate and Land Management (REALM) programme comprises 180 credits and provides advanced training in the legal, financial, and strategic aspects of managing rural land and property within the UK context. The course begins with Research and Information Skills (REALM and Business), which develops essential academic, analytical, and professional competencies. Students then study Estate Management Law, Land Tenure Systems, and Agricultural Tenancies to gain a strong understanding of the legal frameworks governing rural property ownership and occupation. Rural Asset Valuation equips students with techniques for assessing the value of rural land and estates, while Rural Estate Taxation and Planning focuses on taxation systems and financial planning strategies relevant to rural assets. Planning Law and Policy explores the UK planning system and its impact on land use and development decisions. Advanced Research Methods provides the tools needed to design and conduct rigorous academic and applied research in rural land management. The programme concludes with a Major Research Project, allowing students to investigate a complex, real-world issue in rural estate management and apply legal, economic, and strategic knowledge to develop practical solutions.
