COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVetMS) is a structured, professionally accredited programme designed to develop competent veterinary surgeons through progressive clinical and scientific training over five years. In the early stages, students build a strong foundation in animal biology, anatomy, physiology, behaviour and welfare through modules such as Animal Management for Health and Production, Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology, and Animal Behaviour and Welfare. Alongside scientific learning, students develop professional and academic skills, communication abilities, and begin competency-based training. In the second year, studies expand into comparative anatomy, animal health sciences, epidemiology and population medicine, alongside continued development of professional competencies. The third year focuses on Veterinary Pathology, Preparation for Clinical Practice, Veterinary Public Health and State Veterinary Medicine, and core principles of law, ethics and professional practice, ensuring readiness for clinical environments. The fourth year is heavily clinically focused, with an extensive Clinical Medicine and Surgery module complemented by Business and Professional Skills training. In the final year, students complete full clinical rotations, applying their knowledge in real veterinary settings under supervision. Throughout the programme, competency development is continuously assessed to ensure graduates meet professional standards. The course produces well-rounded veterinary professionals prepared for clinical practice, public health, research and leadership roles within the global veterinary profession.
