COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Zoology with Environmental Management programme is a four-year degree that combines animal biology with ecosystem science and environmental management to prepare students for careers in ecology and conservation. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation through modules such as Vertebrate Biology, Invertebrate Biology, Ecology, Biodiversity and the Natural Environment, Animal Health and Nutrition, Key Skills in Zoology, Welfare, Ethics, Law and Policy, and Field Skills and Field Course, which build essential scientific and practical field abilities. Year 2 focuses on applied ecological and environmental study with modules including Ecosystems and Conservation Biology (with field course), Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Genetics, Animal Behaviour and Behavioural Ecology, Pollution Ecology, Environmental Protection and Ecosystem Service Restoration, and Professional Skills for Zoologists. Year 3 is a placement year, providing valuable industry experience where students apply academic knowledge in real-world conservation and environmental settings while building professional networks. In Year 4, students complete an Honours Research Dissertation and study advanced modules such as Recent Advances in Zoological Sciences, Zoology Field Course (including international options), Ecological Consultancy, and Applied Ecology for Management. Overall, the programme develops strong scientific, analytical, and practical skills for careers in environmental management, ecological consultancy, conservation, and biodiversity protection.
