COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Zoology with Entomology programme is a four-year degree that focuses on animal biology with a specialist emphasis on invertebrates, particularly insects, while also covering broader vertebrate zoology. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Vertebrate Biology, Invertebrate Biology, Ecology, Biodiversity and the Natural Environment, Animal Health and Nutrition, Key Skills in Zoology, Welfare, Ethics, Law and Policy, and Field Skills and Field Course, which develop essential scientific knowledge and field experience. Year 2 develops advanced and applied understanding through Ecosystems and Conservation Biology (including field course), Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Genetics, Animal Behaviour and Behavioural Ecology, Invertebrate Ecology and Evolution, Invertebrates in a Changing World, and Professional Skills for Zoologists, along with an elective such as Sustainability in Practice. Year 3 is a placement year, providing students with valuable industry experience and opportunities to apply academic knowledge in real-world settings. In Year 4, students complete an Honours Research Dissertation and study advanced topics including Recent Advances in Zoological Sciences, Zoology Field Course (including international options), Invertebrates and Humans, and Advanced Methods in Entomology. Overall, the programme develops strong scientific, analytical, and field-based skills for careers in entomology, zoology, conservation, and environmental science.
