COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation and Ecology (with placement) programme is structured over four years and combines ecological science, fieldwork, and professional training to prepare students for careers in conservation and environmental management. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Fundamentals of the Physical Environment, Contemporary Issues in Sustainability, Ecological Principles, Introduction to Wildlife Conservation, Environmental Survey and Field Skills, Skills for the Natural Scientist, and Communicating Science in a Digital World, which introduce key ecological concepts and field techniques. Year 2 develops advanced knowledge through Research Methods and Geographical Information Systems, Population and Community Ecology, Wildlife Conservation Management, Practical Research Skills, and Professional Development for the Natural Scientist, along with optional modules such as Urban Ecology and Green Infrastructure, Behavioural Ecology and Wildlife Conservation, and Woodland Management. Year 3 is a dedicated placement year, providing students with at least 44 weeks of industry experience to apply their learning, build professional networks, and improve employability with academic support. In Year 4, students complete an Honours Research Dissertation and advanced modules including Ecological Applications, Wildlife Conservation and Environmental Land Management, and Integrative Project Management, alongside specialist options such as Advanced GIS, Contemporary Forestry, Countryside Projects, or an international field course. Overall, the programme develops strong scientific, analytical, and practical skills for careers in conservation and ecology.
