COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Bioscience (with placement) programme is a four-year degree that provides a strong foundation in animal biology, health, and disease, with a focus on applying scientific principles to veterinary and animal health challenges. In Year 1, students study core modules including Animal Biology, Animal Husbandry and Management, Animal Health, Evolution, Genetics and Behaviour, Introduction to Animal Welfare and Ethics, Skills for the Animal Scientist, and Business in Animal Industries, which establish essential scientific and professional knowledge. Year 2 builds advanced understanding through modules such as Applied Nutrition, Physiology of Body Systems, Behaviour and Welfare Science, Animal Medicines and Preventative Animal Health, Animal Diseases, and Professional Development for Animal Careers, alongside an elective like One Health. Year 3 is a placement year, giving students practical industry experience where they apply academic learning in real-world settings, build professional networks, and develop employability skills. In Year 4, students complete a Dissertation and study advanced topics including Applied Health, Welfare and Behaviour, Global Challenges to Animal Industries, Advances in Animal Diseases and Population Health, and Current Trends in Animal Sciences. Overall, the programme develops strong scientific, analytical, and practical skills for careers in veterinary bioscience, animal health, disease control, research, and related animal science industries.
