COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Rural Property and Real Estate (with Placement) programme provides a comprehensive education in rural property, real estate, and land management, preparing students for careers in the built environment sector. The curriculum combines technical, legal, financial, and managerial aspects of property management, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development and professional practice. In the first year, students develop a foundation in surveying practice, building construction, rural land issues, property economics, valuation, business, finance, law, and the built environment. The second year advances knowledge in sustainable built environments, planning and development, property management and maintenance, agency and tenancy law, valuation, taxation, investment appraisal, and data management, with elective opportunities such as Smart Places. A full placement year in industry allows students to gain valuable professional experience, apply academic knowledge in real-world settings, build industry networks, and enhance employability. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation while studying advanced topics including valuation and professional practice, property development, and ethical and sustainable investment in the built environment. Optional modules such as Event Management and Diversification or International Property Markets provide additional specialization. Throughout the programme, students develop expertise in property valuation, development, sustainability, investment, and strategic decision-making, equipping them for careers as chartered surveyors, property managers, estate managers, real estate consultants, valuers, and other professional roles within the rural property and real estate sectors.
